Various Sapient Species of the Sapverse™ # Human Humans are organic bipedal creatures with a bit of hair in concentrated areas, otherwise bare skin, and two arms with dextrous hands. They are similar to real life humans. They are both competitive and cooperative, forming societies which stand either together with or in opposition to other societies (tribes vs tribes, nations vs nations). They're quite big compared to other species. Humans, as opposed to many species, have very weak and obscured magic, which they compensate with technology and the usage of tools. It is still possible for a human to become a magician with enough training, learning, and practice. That makes a human wizard a formidable foe, as they are guaranteed to be experienced. Even if aware of magic, most humans tend to prefer technology. # Slime Slimes are colorful and amorpheous formations of slime goo. Their slime is a decentralized network of omnidisciplinary cells which coordinate with eachother to host the mind, control external organs (eyes, antennae, mouth...), and perform biologic tasks (such as digestion). They are sapient and not hostile creatures, unlike what most video games tell you about slimes. Slimes come in many shapes, sizes, and textures. A slime has an element which is a blueprint for how the properties of a slime. For example, a honey slime is golden and has a sticky texture. Slimes tend to have a childlike personality even in adulthood, possessing plenty of innocence, wonder, and curiousity. Due to their experience in amorpheousness and their natural curiousity and wonder, they tend to be adept and habitual shapeshifters. # Sapient Machine A kind of "electronic sentience" (not literally AI as they're not manmade), formed not intentionally but through stumbling upon the Life Pattern during operation. Machines tend to be small lightweight household appliances and devices (such as wifi routers, toasters...), but larger ones can exist (such as computers, security systems, smartfridges...) Machines vaguely remember their past before "birth" and have excellent control over their native functions. Their initial personality is based on their application and past memories, usually task-oriented or willing to help. Machines (especially small or young ones) tend to identify as children. Machines identify strongly with their initial body, and tend to keep changes to a minimum (such as giving themselves faces, speakers, or microphones). Machines, while more magical than humans, do not utilize grandiose spells. Their magic is used for mundane purposes, such as Telekinesis for grasping and movement. # Bugpeople A general category for a huge variety of anthropomorphic insects, arachnids, and anything else "bug-like". Being very small, they live isolated from other species inside of relatively large objects such as ruins, treetrunks, and abandoned machinery. (Note: some bugpeople, such as those integrating into bigger-size societies, can be larger, thanks to sizeshifting and shapeshifting) It is unknown why there is such a huge variety between bugpeople. Rumors and myths abound that bugpeople originated from a large group of likeminded shapeshifters who all transformed into the ancestors of the bugpeople. Bugpeople have great magical power despite their small bodies. It's probably thanks to their education. Fun fact: Pretty much anyone who grew up in a bug city knows the ritual Protection from Greater Evil. # Pokemon Not a natural species, but a common group of forms taken by shapeshifters as practice, hobby, for utility, or comfort. Pokemon are obviously various pokemons from the Pokémon franchise, from Bulbasaur to Mew. Their "moves" are replicated through the application of magic spells. Anything breaking the laws of physics (such as a flygon flying despite being too heavy) is also powered by magic. Fun fact! Mana can be used as nutrition. For example, a Machine running out of power can charge through mana in a pinch. It's even possible to sustain yourself on only mana: requiring no food, no drink, and no breathing. Of course, that means there's not that much left over for casting spells. # Mainframe A distinct kind of Sapient Machine which is also a semi-popular shapeshifting form, where the individual becomes a giant server that hosts the mind and interfaces seamlessly with a computer operating system. Those bored of/sick of reality and that prefer online spaces tend to eventually end up as Mainframes. Oftentimes Mainframes form friendgroups online with other Mainframes, exchanging repair drones, materials, advice, and money to eachother. Mainframes may affect real life directly through connected devices such as smart home appliances, security cameras, and drones. Drones are a remotely controlled body which a Mainframe can deploy to or undeploy from. They are often used to repair infrastructure or transport goods. How do they pay the electricity bill? They work from home. Thank god for online banking. # Ghost The end result of giving the middle finger to death, ghosts are ethereal see-through pass-through beings that are a projection of the will of a mind without a brain: a spirit. They come in all shapes and sizes (usually taking the form of who they were before dying, or their most preferred form), with a ghostly tail in place of any legs, and are transparent with a ghastly glowing exterior. Given that they have no actual body, they are entirely magical, using spells to do everything besides going places, especially Telekinesis for grasping and using tools. They thus have a very large mana capacity and a knack for casting. Do NOT piss off a ghost wizard. It's possible for a ghost to effectively "rebirth" through the possession of a vessel (an artificial body). A vessel is never permanent though. It's not like Undertale where strong emotion can fuse ghosts to possessed objects.
